EPIA Global solar photovoltaic installations reach a preliminary 6.4GW in 2009

Image
A bright future shines on the solar photovoltaic electricity market The global solar photovoltaic electricity (PV) market counted an additional increase in installed capacity of about 6.4 GW in 2009, reaching a total capacity of over 20 GW world-wide. This has been the most important annual capacity increase ever and is particularly impressive in light of the difficult financial and economical circumstances during the past year. In 2010, global cumulative installed PV capacity is expected to grow by at least 40%, while the annual growth is expected to increase by more than 15%. During 2009, Germany remained the largest market, with Italy ranking second and Japan and the U.S. markets to follow. Germany most probably will remain the largest market in 2010, while new markets in particular from Southern Europe, Asia and the U.S. will grow significantly. Gathered together in Rome on the occasion of the 5th Workshop on Market Potential and Production Capacity on 19 March 2010, the Membe

Sharp in Japan, Operation Starts at Solar Cell new Plant in GREEN FRONT SAKAI

Image
On March 29, 2010, Sharp Corporation started operations at its new thin-film solar cell plant in GREEN FRONT SAKAI, Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture, Japan. This plant will produce thin-film solar cells using large-size glass substrates measuring 1,000 x 1,400  mm. Thin-film solar cells have a structure in which thin layers of silicon are accumulated onto a glass substrate, enabling a dramatic reduction in the amount of silicon used, to approximately one hundredth the amount used in crystalline solar cells. The production processes are simpler, thereby lowering production costs. For this reason, the demand for thin-film solar cells, especially for use in large scale photovoltaic power generation, has been steady from all over the world. The thin-film solar cell plant in Sakai will serve as a model plant for future Sharp thin-film solar cell plants around the world. Sharp will continue to accumulate and enhance its proprietary production technology and its know-how, to meet the world’s gr

this is solar power ship " Hybrid Car Carrier using Natural Energy "  now has developing by  SANYO with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (Mitsui O.S.K. Lines) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (Mitsubishi Heavy Industries). Sanyo has  started to undertake full-fledged expansion of its energy solution business to bring about a dramatic reduction of CO 2 emissions and running cost to various facilities, such as factories, schools, and stores, through offering the Smart Energy Systems (SES) which combine technologies for Energy Creation (photovoltaic system), Energy Storage (rechargeable battery), and Energy Saving (commercial equipment, etc.).   As part of this initiative, SANYO is promoting a system, incorporating a photovoltaic system and lithium-ion battery system, to help marine vessels reduce CO 2  emissions (Ship SES).   In 2005 and 2008, SANYO Electric supplied Mitsui O.S.K. Lines with photovoltaic systems as verification test units for marine vessels. In the upcoming

Germany to add record 5 GW solar power in 2010-govt

Image
according to Reuters, BERLIN, March 18 (Reuters) - Germany will add more than 5,000 megawatts of photovoltaic capacity this year -- or nearly double the previous record of 3,000 megawatts that was installed in 2009, a senior German government official said on Thursday. Karin Freier, head of the Environment Ministry's solar energy department, said planned cuts of 16 percent in state subsidies that will take effect in July were fuelling the boom as investors rush to beat the deadline. "This year we'll definitely have 5,000 megawatts or maybe even more," she told a Euroforum conference. Germany is the world's photovoltaics leader with about 9,000 megawatts installed at the end of 2009 and some 58,000 jobs created in the last decade. "We want to maintain our world technology leadership and jobs. But on the other side we don't want to overheat the world market. We had to make the correction." She said it was still possible there could be small changes b
